Een kajaktocht in Oxelösund – Femöre rond
Het schiereiland Femöre is een natuurreservaat nabij het centrum van Oxelösund, prachtig gelegen met schitterend uitzicht over de open zee en de archipel. The origin of the peninsula's name is disputed. One interpretation is that "ör" in older language usage meant stone or natural harbor. Blasted into the bedrock is a defense installation with a coastal artillery battery, decommissioned in 2003, and now a museum. At the very tip of the point stands the Femörehuvud lighthouse with its lighthouse keeper's residence. A kayak trip around the peninsula becomes quite a challenge when the sea is rough; in calm weather you can get around without any problems. The reward is an exciting trip around the entire Femöre peninsula, paddling through Oxelösund's deep-water port and through the narrow Femöre Canal. Along the way you can stop at a restaurant and enjoy a good lunch.

Oxelösund municipality publishes a map of the municipality that is distributed free of charge at the tourist office located in the center, among other places. That map works well as a guide for this trip. The trip is described in a counterclockwise direction starting and finishing from Jogersö campsite and kayak rental. From the beach, paddle out of the bay, keep to the left side and follow the shore of Jogersö southward to the southernmost point, Nötudden, which you round to the left, eastward. Head toward the buildings on Gölholmen, formerly an island but now the westernmost part of Femöre. Pass by Myrskär and Stångskär, which you have on your right side. After Stångskär, turn right and then shortly left through Inre Ramnösund, the narrow strait between Gölholmen and the small island Ramnöklubb. If you feel like taking a break here, you can round Ramnöklubb and paddle into the bay Ramnöugnen on the west side of Ramnö. Here there are toilets and a rest area. A blue-marked hiking trail leads around all of Ramnö.
Paddle back through Yttre Ramnösund, or if the weather permits round Ramnö, and continue eastward along Femöre. Here the sea is open and the swell can become quite high, but in calm weather there are no problems passing here. At Gubbenshål on Femöre you can take a break. Here there are toilets and a deck to sit on. Ahead of you now lies Femörehuvud, the rocky and imposing southern tip of Femöre where the lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper's residence at the very end crown the scene. In the rock there is also a now-decommissioned fortification with long-range cannons. It is open to the public at certain times. You turn left after Femörehuvud and now approach Oxelösund's deep-water port, an impressive facility. Large ships pass here at all hours of the day, but if you stay not too far from shore there is no danger. Orange-colored pilot boats also pass frequently. You must round the point Ljungholmen on the outside, and after that you reach Österviken with its fishing harbor, small boat harbor, and guest harbor. At the guest harbor there is a food stand and overnight cabins. Continue along the shore of Femöre to the next small boat harbor, which you paddle into, keeping to the left of the island Stora Björn at the entrance. Opposite the island on the mainland side there is a restaurant with a guest harbor. At the innermost part of the harbor area, the harbor basin, actually a sea inlet, transitions into Femöre Canal, a dug canal that separates Femöre from the mainland. You come out into Femörefjärden where, in the background behind some smaller islands, you can see Jogersö where you started. Follow the mainland side, on your right in the direction of travel. Pass a small boat harbor on your right side and paddle in under the bridge over to Jogersö. Follow the shore on your left side, Jogersö, round the island's west side and you are back at the starting point.
