Inflatable seat
An inflatable single kayak is generally wider than a regular sea kayak. The sides are also much higher, so it's important to have an inflatable seat with a bit more height to get as good and natural a paddle stroke as possible. Sitting at the bottom of the kayak means holding the paddle higher up, which quickly tires out your shoulders and back.
2 large fins
An inflatable single kayak glides a lot on the water surface since it's relatively flat underneath. This naturally affects directional stability quite a bit. That's why it's very important to have two large fins on the underside. If the kayak only has one fin, it becomes much harder to paddle.
Splash guards
An inflatable single kayak is more open than a regular sea kayak, which means both the paddler and all your gear are more exposed to getting wet. That's why it's important to have splash guards at both the front and back, keeping out much of the water that would otherwise get into the kayak.
Drain plug
An inflatable kayak is easy to inflate and deflate, but getting all the water out when packing it away can be quite difficult. That's why it's good to have a drain plug that makes this easier. Packing away a kayak that's too wet and leaving it like that for a while can make the kayak smell musty.
Longer paddle
Given the kayak's width and the thickness of the sides, you need a paddle that's at least 230 cm long to get a comfortable and natural paddling motion.
Durable
The Havspaddeln Frej is made from a hard-wearing PVC material that can take a lot of wear. It's the exact same material as our SUP boards, which we use in our rental business and trust completely. The nose and tail of the kayak are fitted with hard plastic, so it won't get damaged even if you accidentally paddle into jetties, rocks or similar. You should be a little careful with the fins underneath the kayak, but they're a larger, more durable version that can also take a lot.
Storage space
An inflatable single kayak doesn't have storage hatches, but this model has "pockets" at the front and back instead. We've made these extra large to protect your gear as well as possible, while also helping to keep excess water out of the kayak. There's plenty of room to bring gear for overnight trips or long day trips. On top of the pockets there are also elastic straps where you can attach other items, such as waterproof bags. There's also a small mesh pocket right by the seat for smaller items like a phone, sunglasses or a water bottle that you want easy access to.
Comfortable paddling
This inflatable single kayak is very comfortable to paddle, mainly thanks to the inflatable seat. The kayak has been developed over a long period to create an inflatable kayak that doesn't feel bulky and gives as good a paddling motion as possible. A higher seat lifts you up a bit, giving you a more natural paddle stroke. Since this type of kayak is wider than usual and the high sides put you further from the water, it's very important that the kayak has an inflatable seat and a longer paddle.
